Storm Warning: Forecast Climbs To 30 Inches, Cancellation Updates

The latest National Weather Service alert has increased snowfall projections to include widespread accumulations of 20-30 inches, with some locations expected to get more than 30 inches of snow.

Heavy snow and high winds are expected to create near-blizzard conditions. While the heaviest snowfall is expected to occur Saturday, conditions will deteriorate rapidly Friday afternoon.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected from Friday afternoon through the weekend.

The Town of Leesburg has declared a snow emergency effective at 10 a.m. Friday. No parking will be allowed on Market Street, Loudoun Street and King Street. Drivers are also asked to refrain from parking on other roadways to facilitate plowing.

Loudoun County facilities will be closed Saturday, including all libraries, community centers, and senior centers. The Loudoun County Animal Shelter also will be close

All Loudoun County Parks and Recreation sports league activities have been canceled for Friday night and Saturday. A decision for Sunday usage will be made Saturday.

Virginia Regional Transit halted bus service at 5 p.m. on Friday because of hazardous road conditions. All VRT bus services for Saturday are cancelled. A decision about operations for Sunday, will be made by 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Loudoun Valley HomeGrown Markets Association has cancelled Saturday's Farmers Market in Leesburg. The New Vendor Seminar/Meet & Greet that was also to be held this Saturday has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Extension Office, from noon until 2pm. The Middleburg Council work session schedule for Monday, February 8 has been cancelled.

Leesburg mayoral candidate Tom Dunn has cancelled plans for his campaign kickoff Friday afternoon.

A community event to benefit an Ashburn Village family whose home was destroyed by fire last week has been rescheduled. The event will be held from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church.

The Loudoun County landfill will be closed Saturday.
